The UFW is holding their 18th Constitutional Convention in Fresno this weekend. Pam Whalen is the host.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">August 22 thru August 24 - The United Farm Workers’ 18th Constitutional Convention. Convention delegates elect UFW leaders, debate resolutions and make decisions that will shape the course of the UFW for the next four years. The theme is "Organización es la Solución." They are anticipating this will be one of the most exciting conventions in our history.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">The UFW will be celebrating victories such as: D’Arrigo, one of the largest vegetable growers in the country who employs 1,800 workers in the Salinas Valley; and our first contract in Oregon with Three Mile Canyon Farms, America’s largest dairy employing more than 350 year-round dairy workers; a contract with Charles Krug Mondavi and an end to the boycott of their wines; and much more. Lewis and American poet Joy Gresham. SHADOWLANDS shows how love, and the risk of loss, transformed this great man’s relationships, even with God. Starring Martin Jarvis and W. Morgan Sheppard.</FONT></P>
<P><B><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">9 - 10 p.m. Joe Frank - Bitter Pill </FONT></B><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow"> Larry's gives his mother the birthday gift of a family photograph with her husband air-brushed out. Joe's tells the story of a child prodigy friend. Larry and Joe debate the merits of their respective neighborhood country clubs. Maude tells the story of her wild youth. At her birthday, Larry recites "The Runaway Bunny" to his mother. Joe speaks of his mother's "imperial" cat, Prince, and describes events leading to his execution. </FONT></P>

<P><B><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">5 PM - 9 PM Live Coverage of the Democratic Conventio</FONT></B><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">n - This year’s Democratic Convention is poised to change some old convention traditions. In addition to nominating the first African-American for President from a major party, the Democrats will feature “America’s Town Hall” Q&A sessions during the convention nights and a Thursday night acceptance speech by Barack Obama at Mile High Stadium. Obama’s candidacy has mobilized more young voters for the Democrats than any other recent election. But not everyone shares the enthusiasm for the Democrats this year - major protests are being planned in Downtown Denver for Convention week.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">We’ll have veteran Pacifica host Larry Bensky in the balcony of the convention hall, as well as a slew of interesting guests to provide perspective and analysis. And in collaboration with KGNU and other affiliates, we’ll have reporters in the streets to cover other voices around the convention. </FONT></P>
<P><U><B><FONT SIZE=5 FACE="Arial Narrow">August 25-29 </FONT></B></U><B></B> <FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">Democratic National Convention Coverage will also include a special 2-hour edition of Democracy Now! from 6-8 AM, followed by a one hour edition of The Morning Show, originating in part at the convention . subjects as foreign policy politics, gender and race have appeared in papers around the country. He is also involved in a number of activist groups working against U.S. military and U.S. economic policies. He recently returned from Pakistan where he taught a summer class at<BR>
International Islamic University in Islamabad. </FONT>

<P><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">Barbara Nicholson holds a master's degree in Education, specializing in learning disabilities. She has volunteered for over 20 years with La Leche League International, an educational and support organization for breastfeeding mothers. She is also trained as a facilitator in the Nurturing Parenting Program. Ms. Nicholson co-founded Attachment Parenting International in 1994 and serves as the President of the Board of Directors. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT FACE="Arial Narrow">She has spoken to a variety of groups -- including parent educators, psychology students, conference attendees, and juvenile probation officers -- about parenting as a prevention model for societal violence. Ms. Nicholson continues to work closely with API on fundraising and has served on the development committee for the Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker (MIHOW) Program at Vanderbilt University. Barbara is the mother of four adult sons and resides in Nashville, Tennessee. </FONT></P>

The Republican alliance of religious conservatives, military boosters, and free marketeers forged by Ronald Reagan appears more fractured than ever. Many Republican Party insiders are dour, but John McCain continues to remain competitive in national polls. During convention week, St. Paul and Minneapolis will also play host to Ron Paul’s shadow convention, a peace conference, and a series of street demonstrations. </FONT></P>

He is soooo glad to be back and to be back on the air. Jim sends out a big thanks to rick flores for covering his program in both July and august. There have been a number of new artists in the jazz field who have stepped forward and taken on the challenges of the popular music field of the 1930's thu the 1950's...Jim will be playing out of those recently received offerings. Please tune in and plan to roll back the rug to "dance to the bands". </FONT></P>
