For more details see: pacificaradioarchives.org The Pacifica Radio Archives annual marathon broadcast fund drive launches the Campus Campaign "From the Vault to the Classroom: Providing a new generation with a sound education." Founder Lewis Hill's mission was to create a new kind of radio, supported by listeners, owing nothing to sponsors, providing an outlet for creative expression, and a safe haven for artistic experiments with the radio medium. Predating National Public Radio, and beginning with KPFA-FM in Berkeley, CA, the network added four stations (in New York City, Washington D.C., Houston and Los Angeles), over the next 28 years. Perhaps best known as a chronicler of social justice movements and cultural change, the Pacifica stations have consistently embraced the performing and literary arts, offering sometimes the only forum for cutting edge and classical arts, and providing a stage to experiment with radio drama, spoken word, sound sculpture and the art of radio documentary. The Pacifica Radio Archives are a one of a kind history of our country from a public broadcasting perspective. The Campus Campaign is a new initiative to bring the historic recordings of Pacifica Radio to the classroom.grassroots style.one school at a time. On Tuesday, November 18th Pacifica listeners will be treated to a day-long broadcast featuring powerful sounds from the archives collection AND get the chance to select an educational package of From the Vault, like the Civil Rights pack featuring 10 hours of carefully selected audio, and sponsor a school of their choice with a duplicate of their selection. The postcard came with the Foundation's return address and logo on it. Some people who received it thought it looked like the Foundation was endorsing a particular candidate. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Foundation does make its mailing list available to all candidates running for the Foundation Board. If a candidate uses our bulk mailing permit as well as our mailing list, Post Office rules require that the mailing carry the return address of the Foundation. If you receive or have received such a mailing, please be aware that the message on the campaign material is not from the Foundation. The Foundation does not endorse any of the candidates for the Board of Directors, nor does it campaign on behalf of any of them. We apologize for any confusion. The Foundation Board of Directors will be examining this practice and may decide to discontinue it in future elections. Please do vote, and please get your vote in by the extended deadline of December 15, 2008. If you believe you are a member and have not received a ballot in the mail please contact the station at (559) 233-2221. The reference on the postcard to requesting a ballot by November 20 was never a policy of the Foundation and does not apply. Thank you for your understanding.
